Happy Mother's Day!

Since I've written a majority (all) of the blogs so far, dad is going to take a little of the spotlight on Mother's Day... Just a small spolight- Mother's are very well deserving to be given props everyday. But just for a bit on this blog, I'd like to give a few thoughts.

About 95% of everyone who has seen Leland claim he looks like Papa, which of course makes me very happy. But I'm sure he'll eventually grow out of it and look even better as he starts to take on Mommy's look.

But I'd have to say he has a couple of Papa's characteristics that I don't think he'll outgrow. Here are a few obvious ones:


* Light- Sleeper: Like dad, Leland only goes into a deep sleep if he's way tired, super drunk (Dad- off some TPR's; Leland- off Mommy's Milk) or a combination of both... Other than that, he naps for 45 minutes tops! Little sounds wake him up, or he'll jerk himself awake.
* Impatient: He wants his milk now! He wants his diaper changed now! If we leave him alone to set up his clothes, change his diaper, etc, he's gonna cry to let you know to hurry up. Sure, Papa Leif is a pretty easy-going guy, but catch him on I-880 and HE TURNS INTO A MONSTER!!!
* Flatulance: Self explanatory. We rip em' good...
* Loveable: Ok, we'll work on this...

Sounds a lot worse than it is. Basically, Leland's belly button is protruding from his tummy. Its soft, and when you push on it, it makes a squishy sound. It goes in, and then pops back out.

Doctor says its pretty normal (even some adults have it, but they'd require surgery), and should naturally go down by itself. Of course Lola Lorna doesn't seem to think so. She has a special Filipino technique that not only will help the belly button go down, but also help Leland's colic.

Its called a bigkis (sp?). No, not a big kiss. You wrap the baby's tummy with a little rag or bandanna. Looks funky and uncomfortable, but I guess old school Flips swear by it.

Best picture taken so far. Look at the smile on the kid!!! I wonder if he's smiling because he's with daddy, or because he's looking at mommy...

Beautiful, just like mommy. He may have daddy's nose, but everything else is mommy.

6 lbs. 12 oz.

Melissa's younger sister, Lorimar, and her boyfriend Elias (Eli) also gave birth to a baby boy. Leland has a playmate!!! Lor stuck it through after a LONG labor at Kaiser SF (where Papa Leif was born!!!).


Elijah, A.K.A. Lil' Nicky, is doing well. Just like cousin Leland, he inherited the Pacho-Dome and got stuck on the way out... C-Sections are the trend- both Melis & Lor were born via C-Section and now both Leland and Lil' Nicky, too.

Doctors say there's no C-Section-Gene that gets passed down to females from their mothers... How about a "you're-going-to-have-a-C-Section-because-your-baby's-big-head-will-get-stuck-in-the-birth-canal-Gene..."
