Six Weeks

Six weeks. The one thing I’ve heard parents say is “it’ll get better…” I actually had a customer tell me that usually at six weeks “you’ll see a change for the better… Then they start teething…”

At six weeks, we are (finally) noticing a change! Mama finally has Leland a.k.a. Up-All-Night, on a strict routine, so he eats and sleeps pretty much at the same times now. Plus he’s on the boob about 95% of the time… “Breast milk, it’s good for you!”

Of course, he’s going through diapers like water and at random times (and did I mention he pees everywhere?). What cracks us up though is the many times Leland has "soiled" his clothes! Geez. He bears down really hard sometimes, and gets "mustard" stains in his clothes. Sometimes even on his blankets! Little Rascal...

One Month Old

Leland turned one month old today!!! Yes, it went by pretty fast. I can't believe just a month ago he was still in Mommy's tummy. And now here is, crying, sleeping, crapping, peeing- right in front of our eyes.

We've taken a picture of him everyday so far, and you can totally see the changes. For one thing, he's defintely eating better as you can see he's getting bigger. His eyes are starting to focus in on us better as well, as he can recognize Mommy and her boobs and my bald head.

But one thing that hasn't changed is he's still our party animal: up all night! A good night is him waking up twice, which happens maybe two or three times a week. Other days, he's up almost every hour for feedings, diaper changing, or because Mommy & Daddy are snoring too loud. Definitely something you cannot plan or prepare for.

Its funny going through the roller coaster of emotions. One minute you're staring at your offspring with joy, love and amazement. The next minute you're ready to *fill in "very horrible act that you only think about, but would really never do" here*

As stressful and tiring as it has been, we're loving every minute of it. Its something you can't describe until you actually go through it yourself. Everyone will tell you different things about their first parenting experiences, offer suggestions, and even directly tell you what they think is right or wrong. But all babies are different. You just have to be patient and thank God that at least he's crying out loud. Really, you have to cherish every moment of it, because before you know it, he's wiping his own ass.

25 Days So Far

PARTY ANIMAL
I think Leland is part owl. This kid sleeps pretty well during the day, but at night, it’s a different story. I’ve been keeping track of my Rockstar/ Red Bull inventory, just to make sure Melissa isn’t drinking any (which will go directly to Leland, via boob). But I don’t think he’s needed it. He’s a party animal, up all night.

Watch Out For Squirting Baby

If there’s a stat line for this category, Leland would be the league leader. Once out of every five diaper changes, Leland pees- while we’re in the middle of changing him. Don’t leave him unattended, he’ll squirt the couch, himself, or whomever is changing his diaper. And its not like you can stop it. All you can do is block it.

We have a Wee Blocker, but he knows how to kick it off. And you still have to clean around that area, leaving him exposed just long enough to get you.

Maybe his nickname should be L. Kelly, the Pied Piper of P on U.

Best Squirt So Far:
Lola Lorna was washing his butt in the bathroom sink.

Guys know the sensation: Warm Water + Twig & Berries= Automatic #1.

Leland proceeded to leave his mark on the bathroom mirror. At least he thought it was funny...
